WHO INVENTED THE AUTOMOBILE ? Not anyone in the U.S.

The first vehicle to move under its own power for which there is a record ws designed by Nicholas Joseph Cugnot. It was constructed by M. Brezin in 1769. A replica of this vehicle is on display at the
Conservatoire des Arts et Metiers in Paris. The Smithsonian Museum
in the U.S. has a 1/2 scale model on display. A second unit was built
in 1770 & weighed 8000 lbs and had a top speed of 2 mph on the
cobbled streets of Paris.
Other similar automobiles were constructed all over the world. Most using steam power and each advancing the science a step further.
Nicolos Otto invented the Otto Cycle engine and enabled the subsequent development of better and more reliable automobiles such as those developed by Germans Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz.
The truly successful commercially viable U.S. automobile was the
DURYEA which was first put in service in 1893. It was the first successful gasoline powered automobile.
